Guess what? It’s Friday. It’s June 3rd. So what? It’s National Donut Day! If you’re a donut fanatic like Homer Simpson, it’s your day to celebrate guilt free like me. Thanks to the Salvation Army in Chicago that started this day in 1938 to celebrate nurses that served donuts to soldiers during World War 1.

I celebrated by visiting a local Mom and Pop shop right here in Lake Forest named Michael’s Coffee House. I’ve been a frequent visitor since I first moved here and only got to try a few of their selections today because they were sold out in a matter of minutes upon opening. Unfortunately, they were unprepared for the onslaught and didn’t know about this day. Oh well.  The great thing about Michael’s is their customer service, fresh deli items and baked goods made in house, and the occasional freebies. They also serve Diedrichs and Big Train coffee/smoothies. Read a full review of my Donut Day adventures on my blog.
