Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern, a contemporary version of a tavern serving homemade American regional classics, will open its second location, this time landing in Orange County with a loyal following from its acclaimed sister location in San Diego.
Creator and well known restaurateur, David Wilhelm states, “The idea for Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern, or JFAT, grew out of the early tavern tradition that was popular in Renaissance England and later in New England states. The core of the concept is still based on the original tradition of a social gathering place, but with a modern day interpretation.”
In a country so rich in differing food traditions, JFAT and Chef James Nunn’s approach is a creative take on American regional classics. Some are simply prepared as they have been for years; while in other cases they’ve put their own special JFAT topspin on them. Regardless, everything begins with only the best ingredients prepared from scratch daily, while employing traditional methods of cooking. With every dish they’ve stuck to the basics: simply prepared with the highest quality ingredients available and delivered with bold and “crave-able” flavors. From the half-pound Jimmy Burger with Applewood Bacon, Pimento Cheese, and Jalapeno Jelly to the All-Natural Steaks with Buttermilk Beer Battered Onion Rings, or the New England Clambake in a Bowl, you’ll find creative interpretations of some of your favorite childhood meals. Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern is devoted to detail and a reverence for the freshest ingredients; proving that artisanal food can be very simple and traditional. Wilhelm has tapped longtime friend and industry veteran Stacy Mald as General Manager to oversee all aspects of the Dana Point operation.
