Orange-based Haven Gastropub ranks among the three best of its kind in the U.S., according to Draft magazine.
The publication, which highlights news, trends and topics in the industry, called the concept "one of the most true-to-form gastropubs you will find in this country."
Haven Gastropub opened in September 2009 in Old Towne, and business has held strong ever since.
"Within 15 minutes, every seat was taken, and we were three deep at the bar,” said Wil Dee, managing partner and beverage director at Haven Gastropub. “We stayed at standing room only for three days straight."
The eatery blends "pub and gourmet grub" in the style of similar concepts in London. The menu, created by Executive Chef and Partner Greg Daniels, offers old-world European cuisine with a modern American infusion. Dishes include Mac n' Cheese, Pulled Pork Sandwich and Cabernet Crusted Escolar.
Haven offers 14 beers on draft; more than 60 bottled craft beers; more than 50 single-malt whiskeys, malt scotches and bourbons; and 50 wines by the glass. Every dish has a pairing suggestion.
“The partners and I admit that we never focused on the word ‘gastropub’ when developing the Haven concept,” said Dee. “You can imagine our surprise when we saw ourselves referred to as one of the top three in the country."
Joining Haven on the list are Rack & Rye Gastropub in Denver, Colo., and Ormsby's in Atlanta, Ga.
