Haven owners introduce new fast-casual concept

Taco asylum is slated to open later this year at The Camp in Costa Mesa.

August, 2010

The innovative culinary brains behind the Haven Gastropub in Orange are moving forward with plans to launch a new fast-casual concept at The Camp retail center in Costa Mesa.

Taco asylum, which is slated to open in late 2010, will serve up nontraditional tacos with global ingredients and meats – everything from pork belly to shortrib to octopus to escolar – as well as a craft-beer selection.

"At first, the name 'taco asylum' may lead diners to think of the concept as one with Mexican fare, but our menu which will not be expansive in selection, will not be bound by borders or specific cuisine," said Greg Daniels, executive chef and partner of The Haven Collective.

Daniels, along with partners Wil Dee and Ace Patel, opened Haven in September 2009 to much acclaim.

The newest eatery will feature 40 seats with indoor, patio and counter seating. It will be open for lunch and dinner.
