With 10 awards under its belt through June, a lineup of its beers being served throughout Southern California and a brewmasters dinner slated for later this month, TAPS Fish House & Brewery is having a banner year.
The restaurant, which has an Orange County location in Brea and another in Corona, has received 10 honors in four different competitions this year. Five of those medals are gold, four silver and one bronze.
Among its accolades: The California State Fair gave TAPS' Irish Red a gold honor, and the brewery's Cream Ale garnered a silver. Also, the L.A. International Beer Fest bestowed four gold awards on TAPS' Cream Ale, Oscura, Barleywine and Irish Red, while the Belgian White received silver. The World Beer Cup and the San Diego International Beer Fest have also honored TAPS' brews this year.
Since its inception in 1999, the brewery has garnered nearly 50 awards.
On the heels of that success, TAPS' brews are now being carried in craft-beer restaurants such as Haven Gastropub, Beachwood BBQ and The Catch, among others.
“This puts us on the craft-beer map, as these places don’t carry just anyone’s beer,” said TAPS proprietor-founder Joe Manzella. “It’s really a landmark for our brewery, and certainly backed up by the 10 diverse awards we have won this year already.”
Manzella credits TAPS' success to brewmaster Victor Novak, in addition to the establishment of the Brew Crew last year, according to a statement.
Members include Evan Price, head brewer, and Kyle Manns, assistant brewer.
Additionally, TAPS is hosting a Brewmasters Beer Dinner in Brea on July 21. The evening will feature a five-course meal – and each selection will be paired with a beer by local brewmasters.
The dinner costs $60 per person. For more information, visit tapsfishhouse.com.
