After a night out with friends, the first thing your stomach calls for is a Breakfast Burrito from Rooster Café – and it opens at 7 a.m. daily, so you can get your fix early in the morning. The café – a hole in the wall hidden off Bristol Street in Costa Mesa – offers a small space for dining. If you need fresh air, there's also outdoor seating, but it’s limited. One of the perks of the place is the servers are always friendly and promptly greet you with a hearty welcome when you step up to the counter. Nothing on the menu is priced more than $8 – and the servings are large. It's a great way to save a buck and have some extra food for later, too. The food is prepared with simple quality ingredients you can taste. The Breakfast Burrito is loaded with scrambled eggs, hash browns, shredded cheddar cheese, bacon or sausage and wrapped in a flour tortilla. It sounds simple, but the authentic salsa on the side is the key ingredient. The normal expectations of any burrito are too many carbs paired with too much grease, but even this treat can be slightly guilt-free. The salads and sandwiches are also delicious, if you're thinking of straying from the dominant breakfast menu. Try the Hot Pastrami sandwich with thick slices of rye bread and a hearty helping of juicy pastrami and provolone cheese melted to perfection. When you're finished dining, you'll want a box to-go, because if you didn't finish everything on your plate – which I'm sure you won't – you'll want to eat that burrito later in the day, too.
