'Top Chef' season one semifinalist will perform demo at Zov's Bistro Sunday

Chef Dave Martin will prepare his signature Black Truffle Mac & Cheese, among other selections.

Chef Dave Martin, a semifinalist from season one of Bravo's "Top Chef," will be performing a live demonstration Sunday at Zov’s Bistro in Tustin.

The event will feature Martin (right) showcasing his signature dishes, including his famous Black Truffle Mac & Cheese, which guests will also have a chance to enjoy. The selection offers a blend of black truffles, brandy and fontina, slow-cooked with fresh thyme and oregano.

The demo will be held on the patio at Zov’s Bistro and will include a three-course prix-fixe meal with the mac & cheese, along with a Cider-Marinated Pork Tenderloin – the dish features hoisin and fresh apple cider with apricot and mango chutney, roasted wild mushroom mashers and brussel sprouts – and Pumpkin Panna Cotta. It's a sour cream and pumpkin panna cotta with gingerbread cookie.

Zov’s Bistro, founded by Chef Zov Karamardian in 1987, has featured several celebrity chef demos in the past. It is Martin’s layering of flavors and the vivid description of his dishes that will make him the perfect guest chef, according to Karamardian.

“He has a true love and passion for food and people and enjoys bringing the two together,” she says. “I know he will win over the hearts and palates of the event attendees, as he did millions of viewers who tuned in to see him on ‘Top Chef.’”

By competing on the TV competition series, Martin solidified his rank as a master as he battled to make it to the final episode and the third top spot before being cut.

However, Martin’s career did not start in the culinary industry. Unfulfilled, Martin left his career in the technology industry to instead enroll in culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, where he graduated with honors.

Before graduating, he began his own catering company, As You Wish Catering, and took on an executive role at XO Wine Bistro in Manhattan Beach.

Now, guests can view his demo at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday for $75, which also includes the prix-fixe lunch menu listed above. Reservations can be made by contacting Connie Tran at 714.838.8855, ext. 21.

Zov's Bistro is located at 17740 E. 17th St.
