Top chefs from across the county will team up on Oct. 11 to prepare a five-course dinner with specialty wine pairings for the 19th annual SOS Celebrity Chef Dinner at the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa. The dinner has become one of the region’s most popular culinary events and is a main fundraiser for Share Our Selves, a Costa Mesa-based nonprofit food bank, job center and clinic serving more than 300 families every day. A highlight of the evening is a live auction featuring exclusive dining packages; offerings from previous years have included private dinners prepared by participating chefs. Proceeds from the event will benefit the nonprofit’s Orange Aid Project, which collects and distributes to families food from local restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries and catering services. Over the years, funds raised from the dinner have gone toward the construction of a kitchen at the food bank, the purchase of two vans for food pickups and other food distribution efforts. Among this year’s participating chefs: Bill Bracken, from The Island Hotel in Newport Beach; Alan Greeley, from The Golden Truffle (Greeley is a founding chef of the event); Franco Barone, from Antonello Ristorante; Michael Kang (also a founding chef) from 5’; and Chad Krahling, from the Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa. The fun kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with a reception and silent auction, featuring Champagne, martinis, beer and hors d’oeuvres. Then the dinner and live auction begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $250 per person and can be purchased by calling 949.515.5400. shareourselves.org
