Looking for a lunch spot that offers great food, fast service and an intimate setting? Head to Soprano’s in Costa Mesa, at the corner of Newport Boulevard and Santa Isabel. The cozy Italian eatery has less than a dozen tables and booths, as well as seating for about four at the bar.

The menu is extensive with choices that include the requisite pasta dishes (all cooked to order) and calzones (made with homemade pizza dough), but also includes selections such as Chicken Marsala, baked lamb shank, and veal Osso Bucco. All can be paired with a wine selection from Soprano’s respectable wine list, all available by the glass.

My recommendation: The Penne Con Sargi, a large bowl of penne pasta topped with a sliced grilled chicken breast and sundried tomatoes. It’s bathed in a light cream sauce, flavored with tarragon and congnac.

A delicious lunch for just $9.95.

Finish with a a crème brulee or treat yourself to an espresso truffle, espresso ice cream encased in a shell of chocolate – like one extra-large bon-bon!

Readers Feedback:

Soprano's has a superb Chicken Piccata. The pizza is delicious and their pasta sauces are fantastic. The atmosphere is of a small, family, italian cafe.

Just had dinner at Soprano's. The Owner and the staff were fantastic. Hector is one of the best waiters ever and the osso buco was some of the best I've ever had. Canoli was delicious. Calamari friti was flavorful, tender with just the right amount of crispiness. I only have good things to say. I grew up in a NY italian family and have been to Italy on business and vacation, so trust me - I know great italian food when I taste it.
