 Oggi’s Pizza & Brewing Co. has garnered the gold medal for its Black Magic Stout at the Brewers Association World Beer Cup. The biannual global competition also recognizes brews with silver and bronze medals in 90 “beer-style” categories.
Oggi's Black Magic Stout was recognized in the American-style stout beer category. The brew is a stronger version of a traditional dry Irish stout.
This year, more than 3,400 entries from 642 breweries in 44 countries were evaluated by a panel of 179 judges from 27 countries.
Oggi's local restaurant locations include Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Mission Viejo, Orange and Tustin. The family-owned eatery launched its microbrewery concept in 1995. Its San Clemente-based production facility operates under the name Left Coast Brewing Co.
Founded in 1991, the franchise began partnering with sports radio talk-show hosts and other professional sports organizations in the mid-1990s as a guerilla-marketing tactic. Big-screen TVs for game-watching and sports memorabilia were also added to attract a wider demographic of customers. It currently has the honor of being the official pizza of the Anaheim Ducks.
Besides pizza, pasta and salads, other distinctive items feature names like Southwest Wonton Rolls, Italian Chicken Quesadilla and Rain Forest Wrap.
