I’m a big fan of Italian food. Authentic, homemade, almost as good as what an Italian grandmother would make food. After searching high and low, Cucina Alessa in Newport Beach takes the crown.
Cucina Alessa is a cute, cozy restaurant located right on the border of Newport and Huntington Beach on PCH. Drive by too fast and you’re guaranteed to miss it. But don’t let the location fool you – Cucina Alessa definitely has some of the best Italian food Orange County has to offer.
The menu has a variety of Italian dishes ranging from antipasti to salads to fresh made pasta to meat and seafood dishes. While the Caprese Salad, Minestrone Soup, and the Pollo Parmigiana are all great options, the true shining stars at Cucina Alessa are the thin crust pizzas and pasta dishes.
On the pizza front, one standout is the Pizza Rafy which is made with fresh Gorgonzola, Mushrooms and Mozzarella Cheese:
If pizza isn’t your thing, the Tortellini Panna E Prosciutto is a delicious pasta option:
Feeling indecisive about the pasta? The Risotto al Giorno (Risotto of the Day) is sure to leave you feeling satisfied. On this particular day spinach was the star ingredient:
But of course, one of the highlights (and most popular dishes) is the Zucca aka Homemade Butternut Squash Ravioli with Ricotta, Brown Butter and Sage aka one of the #1 reasons to dine at Cucina Alessa. This dish is so good the restaurant offers it in appetizer and entree sized portions:
But of course you can’t dine at an Italian restaurant without some classic Italian dessert. The Panna Cotta at Cucina Alessa will make you want to pack your bags and travel to Italy instantly (or at least think about traveling to Italy):
Cucina Alessa has two other locations in Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach that are slightly bigger and serve the same menu (Laguna Beach also has a Mozzarella Bar), but if you want to try the “original,” be sure to check out the Newport Beach location. And don’t forget to order the Zucca. And the Pizza Rafy. And the Panna Cotta.
But don’t take my word for it – try it yourself!
